Passage: Isaiah 42:1-7
The sermon for July 13 is entitled "Agents of Light." Looking at Isaiah 42:1-7 and Ephesians 5:8-11 we will explore what the Bible's images of light might mean for us. We want to make a difference in the world. But we battle the feelings that there isn't much we can do that will match the course of events. The scriptures contain a surprising symbol: God keeps coming into the world like LIGHT. Light as a symbol is about the force of something gentle, God's gentleness that changes the look of our world for humans and, with surprising power, changes how we will navigate in it. Can a territory which is shadowy, seemingly unknowable, and perhaps dangerous become a place where the agents of light will be able to see the paths to clarity, human well-being ,and community? Hopefully this sermon will help us learn more about some of the promises of the scriptures in order that we may continue together on paths that bring light to the world.
