AN IMPORTANT
MESSAGE from Rev. Susan Patterson-Sumwalt: |
Brothers
and Sisters in Christ,
We have all
been devastated by the news of the tragedies in Haiti, one
of the poorest countries in the world. There are great
needs right now in Haiti and many things we can do to help.
First, it is especially important that we pray for the
people of the country. Each day the news is filled with
heartbreaking accounts of suffering. Please also join me in
prayer for the many rescue and medical workers who are
responding to the devastation. Many missionaries and
personnel have been killed in the earthquake, including the
Rev. Dr. Sam Dixon, Director of UMCOR, the United Methodist
Committee on Relief. For
more information about how you can help, read below.
May
Christ's compassion direct us and bind us together,
Pastor Susan

Help now by making
a financial donation to UMCOR
(United Methodist Committee on
Relief). One hundred percent of your donation will be sent directly
to UMCOR Haiti where our denomination has a base in and where we
regularly work. You can make a donation in one of two ways:
Mail or bring a
check to UMCWFB and we will send it immediately to UMCOR. Checks
should be made payable to UMCWFB (United Methodist Church of
Whitefish Bay) and marked “Haiti” in the memo section. Giving
members/friends will see a designation for this gift on their next
contribution statement.
Make a donation
directly through the UMCOR website or the United Methodist website
which will redirect you to UMCOR. Don’t forget to check with your
employer (human resources department) to see if they will offer a
matching contribution to your donation.

You and/or your
family can put together a greatly needed health kit(s) for Haiti.
Doing so allows the UMCOR staff to send them directly to Haiti
without having to find volunteer personnel to assemble them. A
collection box is located in the Jones Narthex (church lobby) at
UMCWFB to receive these kits. It is very important that you follow
the
directions found on the UMCOR website exactly when assembling
these critical health kits.

UMCWFB will sponsor
a mission trip to Haiti and hope to send a team as soon as
possible. It will take several months to organize and receive
clearance to do so. If you are interested in contributing to this
effort financially or physically, please contact Pastor Susan at
pastorpatterson-sumwalt@umcwfb.org. There will be needs in
Haiti for years to come. We hope and pray that we will be able to
arrange several work trips over the next couple of years.
